New Year = New Plan & New Goals 2013

January 1, 2013 was my decided date to begin a new plan to help me reach my goal weight. I decided after much research that I was going to start the South Beach Diet. My husband's doctore had recommended it to improve his good cholesterol and after checking into it I felt it was a good fit for our family. Our decided day to begin was January 1st so that the holiday season would be over. I was worried that I had gained significantly over Christmas and New Years but thankfully I maintained very well. I weighed in at 160.0 lbs.

Yesterday for breakfast I made the most delicious South Beach Egg cassaroleish meal. I got the recipe from Kalyan's Kitchen (a great site for anything South Beach). I did substitute the green peppers for onions and I made my cassarole in cupcake foils. Overall it was a BIG hit with my husband and sons. (Here is the recipe http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2007/09/south-beach-friendly-breakfast.html)

After getting all the Christmas decorations down I got my workout on. Jillian Michaels Kickbox Fast Fix and a 2 mile run!! On Runkeeper I started a 10K program to help me work to completing my 1st 10K. Day 1 was a success overall and I am proud that my family is on board with this plan.

Today for lunch I made tuna and tomato lettuce wraps and ate left over black eye peas. Yum and Yum.

Here is to the start of a fabulous year!! XO

Meeting Elizabeth Smart

Elizabeth Smart

Several years ago there was a heart wrenching story in the news media about a 14 year old Utah girl who was abducted from her bedroom at knife point. Nine months later she was rescued from her captors by police. Her name is Elizabeth Smart...

Thursday I was honored to be in the presence of this amazing woman while she addressed a room full of detectives and shared her heart wrenching story.

She walked us through her abduction and the torture her captors put her through for the 9 months she was under their control. The pain and suffering that was inflicted on her was unimaginable, but so was her strength. The strength she had to survive, to find her way back to her family, and to become the woman she is today. What amazed me the most is that at the end of her story, she actually thanked us (a room full of detectives that she doesn't even know) for the job we do. She was so humble and moving. Her story was the energy I needed to recharge my battery.

Her captors have both been convicted of their crimes and Elizabeth is now a senior in college, married, and runs a foundation that helps children. If you ever get the chance to read her story. Do it. It will help you to realize how precious life is and how life can change in the blink of an eye. There are currently books available for purchase that document Elizabeth Smart's abduction and recovery from various people's, including her parents and uncle, perspectives. It was recently announced that Elizabeth Smart is telling her story from her perspective and the account is being written by Chris Stewart, a congressman-elect from Utah. Her story should never be forgotten...

Maybe in a future post I will share what I actually do...until then, be thankful for your precious life and remember you are amazing!!

~Short term goal #1- Fit into my pre-baby jeans/clothes~

When I started my weight loss journey on September 14th my short term goal was to fit back into my pre-baby clothes. Simple. Realistic. Achievable. For months I have been upset because I quite literally only had 2 pairs of jeans that 'fit' me. By 'fit' I mean I was able to pour my post baby butt into them and get them zipped..mostly! The reason this was so upsetting for me is that my baby is 9 months old. With my first son I was back in my pre-baby clothes in 3 weeks and with my second it took 5 months. Baby number 3 apparently put a whoopin' on this mama!!

So a few weeks ago I started getting complements from people other than the hubs!! (BTW I have the best, most supportive husband on the planet!!) The complements felt good!! I felt that I was finally getting somewhere. I had read a motivational quote when I started working out that I REALLY took to heart...

The part that really stuck with me was "12 weeks for the rest of the world. Give it 12 weeks. Don't quit."
A few weeks back I attempted to try on a pair of my pre-baby size 8 jeans. I felt that I was making progress and MAYBE they would fit...well they didn't. Back in the closet they went.
This weekend as my husband and I were getting ready to take the kids to the mall I realized that both pair of jeans that fit were in the washer. While my husband was out getting the boys ready to go, I bravely decided to give it again. So I went in my closet and pulled out the stack (10+ pairs) of jeans that didn't fit me anymore and just grabbed one and put them on!! Yes I just said PUT THEM ON!! They pulled up easily and zipped like they were made for me. No sucking in. No laying down on the bed to get them zipped. The went on smoothly. At this point I was literally jumping up and down I was so excited. I went out into the living room to find my hubs but my middle son told me he was outside. So me in my crazy excitement ran outside in my jeans and....bra (oops)!! To show my husband!! Of course I got a hug and he told me good job and then said, "um you realize you don't have a shirt on right?" At that point modesty kicked in and I ran into the house with him cackling behind me...I.Love.That.Man!
~Short term goal #2 is to hit the 150s~
I'm almost there...last Wednesday weigh-in (11/7/2012) the scale read:
~Long term goal #1 is to achieve a weight of 145lbs~
This is realistic for me. I have not achieved it in a long time but I feel that with hard work and sticking with my plan I will make it happen.
~Long term goal #2 is to look good in clothes Naked~
Once I achieve this goal I know that I will have succeeded in my fitness journey.
It has not been an easy journey but I can honestly say that it has been worth it. ML Fit Camp has definitely been my support system throughout this process!! It is a group of the most amazing 7,000+ ladies!! Because of this group I found out about Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred (which I completed in October) and the couch to 5K application for my iPhone. I have since moved on to Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and am on week 8 of the C25K program. I am also doing Weight Watchers online and it has been instrumental in my journey.
I have been asked to post my pre and post JM 30DS pictures but I have been so nervous about doing it. I am thankful that my hubs encouraged me to take the pictures because late night when I was making the collage with the B&As I was shocked to see the difference (so was he)...WOW!! Jillian Michaels can continue to kick my butt any day...Keep in mind that I am wearing the same exact swimsuit in the B&As...Here they are:
It feels so good to see that I am crossing goals off my list!! All I know is that life is busy and some days down right suck, but you have to remember that YOU are important and YOU need to be healthy to take care of your family!! No matter what curve ball life throws at you....Just.Keep.Going!
