Meeting Elizabeth Smart

Elizabeth Smart

Several years ago there was a heart wrenching story in the news media about a 14 year old Utah girl who was abducted from her bedroom at knife point. Nine months later she was rescued from her captors by police. Her name is Elizabeth Smart...

Thursday I was honored to be in the presence of this amazing woman while she addressed a room full of detectives and shared her heart wrenching story.

She walked us through her abduction and the torture her captors put her through for the 9 months she was under their control. The pain and suffering that was inflicted on her was unimaginable, but so was her strength. The strength she had to survive, to find her way back to her family, and to become the woman she is today. What amazed me the most is that at the end of her story, she actually thanked us (a room full of detectives that she doesn't even know) for the job we do. She was so humble and moving. Her story was the energy I needed to recharge my battery.

Her captors have both been convicted of their crimes and Elizabeth is now a senior in college, married, and runs a foundation that helps children. If you ever get the chance to read her story. Do it. It will help you to realize how precious life is and how life can change in the blink of an eye. There are currently books available for purchase that document Elizabeth Smart's abduction and recovery from various people's, including her parents and uncle, perspectives. It was recently announced that Elizabeth Smart is telling her story from her perspective and the account is being written by Chris Stewart, a congressman-elect from Utah. Her story should never be forgotten...

Maybe in a future post I will share what I actually do...until then, be thankful for your precious life and remember you are amazing!!
